Bruno Cocset lauk námi 15 ára gamall frá Konservatoríinu í Tours í Frakklandi. Hann áttaði sig fljótt á því að hugur hans leitaði í aðrar áttir en til hefðbundins sellóleiks, sem markaðist, að hans mati allt of mikið, af rómantískum stíl óháð því frá hvaða tímabil tónlistarsögunnar tónlistin var. Frá unga aldri varð hann fyrir miklum áhrifum m.a. frá Harnoncourt, Vegh, Oistrakh, Leonhardt og Savall. Hann hóf nám í konservatoríinu í Lyon, sem höfðaði alls ekki til hans af ofangreindum ástæðum. Hann hóf þá að afla sér menntunar í barokktúlkun á eigin vegum sem leiddi hann til sellóleikarans Cristophe Coin. Bruno varð fyrsti nemandi Coin sem útskrifaðist frá Konservatoríinu í París með æðstu gráðu (premier prix) í barokksellóleik. Hann sótti einnig ýmis námskeið hjá Anner Bylsma, Jaap Schröder o.fl.
Síðan 2001 hefur hann verið kennari við Konservatoríið í París og við Katalónska tónlistarháskólann í Barcelona. Haustið 2005 var hann skipaður prófessor í barokksellóleik við Háskólann í Genf í Sviss.
Frá 1988 til 2004 lék hann með Seminario Musicale (Gérard Lesne) sem ferðuðust um allan heim, hlutu þrenn tónlistarverðlaun og hljóðrituðu 26 geisladiska á þeim tíma. Frá 1990 hefur hann leikið með Jordi Savall (Concert des Nations og Hesperion XXI), hin síðari ár sem sólósellóleikari og hefur m.a. hljóðritað sellókonserta Vivaldis með honum. Bruno stofnaði hópinn “Les Basses Réunies” árið 1996 sem leggur aðaláherslu á rannsóknir og flutning á sellótónbókmenntunum út frá sögulegu samhengi. Gefnir hafa verið út hljóðritanir hjá Alpha útgáfunni með flutningi Brunos og Les Basses Réunies á sónötum Vivaldis, Barriérs, Geminianis, Frescobaldis, svítum J. S. Bachs og sónötum og konsertum Boccherinis.
Bruno Cocset graduated from Tours Conservatory (France) at the age of 15. He soon found out that he was not interested in the conventional style of ‘cello playing, where he thought the romantic style overruled the whole way of playing regardless of from which period the music was. From early age he was influenced by Harnoncourt, Vegh, Oistrakh, Leonhardt and Savall. Bruno began studying at the Lyon Conservatory where he did not find what he was looking for, so he found his own ways to study the baroque ‘cello which led him to ‘cellist Cristoph Coin and Bruno became Coin’s first student to recive the Premier Prix from the CNSM in Paris. He also attended master classes with Anner Bylsma, Jaap Scröder and many others. Since 2001 he has been teacher at the CNSM in Paris and the Catalan Music Consevatory in Barcelona and he was appointed professor at the Geneva Conservatory in autumn 2005.
1988 to 2004 he was a member of Seminario Musicale (Gérard Lesne), with whom he toured the whole world, recived three music prizes and recorded 26 CD’s. From 1990 he has been ‘cellist with Concert des Nations and Hesperion XXI, both directed by Jordi Savall, and is now solo-‘cellist with those ensembles, recently recording concertos by Vivaldi. Bruno Cocset founded the group “Les Basses Réunies” in 1996. The group researches and performs the violoncello repertoire from an historical angle. Recordings of sonatas by Vivaldi, Barriére, Frescobaldi, Geminiani, solo suites by J.S.Bach and sonatas and concertos by Boccherini, performed by Bruno Cocset and Les Basses Réunies, have been published by the Alpha label.
