Berglind María Tómasdóttir lauk námi frá Tónlistarskólanum í Reykjavík 1998 og Tónlistarháskólanum í Kaupmannahöfn 2001. Hún var jafnframt gestanemandi við Háskólann í Lundi í Svíþjóð árið 1997 og Tónlistarháskólann í París árið 2000. Helstu kennarar hennar voru Bernharður Wilkinson, Toke Lund Christiansen og Pierre-Yves Artaud. Berglind María hefur komið víða við í íslensku tónlistarlífi á undanförnum árum. Hún hefur verið forsprakki samtímatónlistarhópsins Njúton (áður Aton/Atónal-hópurinn og Atonal Future) frá árinu 1998 og staðið fyrir frumflutningi fjölda íslenskra verka á þeim vettvangi og víðar. Fyrsti diskur sveitarinnar, sem inniheldur verk samin fyrir hópinn á árunum 1999-2006, hlaut tilnefningu til Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunanna árið 2008. Árið 2003 lék Berglind María einleik ásamt Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands undir stjórn Vladimirs Ashkenazy í hljóðritun á Columbine; konsert fyrir flautu og strengjasveit eftir Þorkel Sigurbjörnsson. Diskur sem innihélt hljóðritun verksins var gefinn út af japanska útgáfufyrirtækinu Octavia Records sama ár. Berglind María hefur gegnt ýmsum tónlistartengdum störfum, hún var framkvæmdastjóri Sumartónleika í Skálholtskirkju á árunum 2004-2006, framkvæmdastjóri Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunanna 2005-2007 og umsjónarmaður tónlistarþáttarins Hlaupanótan á Rás 1 2005-2008. Berglind María stundar nú doktorsnám í samtímatónlist við Kaliforníuháskóla í San Diego.

Berglind María Tómasdóttir has in recent years been a prominent figure in the Icelandic music scene. She has performed all over Iceland, in Scandinavia, France and the US, as a soloist and a chamber musician and participated in festivals such as Dark Music Days in Reykjavik, Nordic Music Days and the Reykjavik Arts Festival. She is the founder and the artistic director of the Njúton Ensemble. The ensemble was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2008 for their first CD entitled Roto con moto.

Berglind is also a founding member of the The Icelandic Flute Ensemble, which has performed regularly since 2003.

2003 Berglind María was soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Ashkenazy, performing Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson””s “Columbine”, a flute concerto for flute and strings. It was recorded and released through the Japanese label Octavia Records the same year.

Berglind María has been active in various ways in the Icelandic music life; she was the Managing Director of Skálholt””s Summer Concerts Festival in 2004-2006, the Managing Director of the Icelandic Music Awards in 2005-2007, and the editor of a daily music program at the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service in 2004-2008 in addition to her activities as a performer.

Berglind María studied at the Reykjavik College of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, graduating in 2001. During her studies she was a visiting student at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM) in 2000 and at Lund University in Sweden in 1997. Her main teachers were Bernhard Wilkinson, Toke Lund Christiansen and Pierre-Yves Artaud. Berglind has participated in various courses in Europe, among them Ensemble Intercontemporain””s Summer Academy held in Paris in 2001.

Currently Berglind lives in San Diego where she is pursuing her DMA in contemporary music performance at the University of California, San Diego.
